Fireapp sass5/3/2023 ![]() tools, the same way you should be able to use that code with any browser. So far 2012 has been a big year for me in progressing my front-end web development skills, tools and process. You should be able to just point Web App Tester to your index file, and skip the node/gulp/. If you are still in doubt about that 4k stick, right now Amazon has Gen 2 stick on sale for $30.Īs far as trying to use node.js to work with that WASK code, that is rather BS. Also, looking at our logs, there is a bit of people using that stick with our apps, and those logs indicate that everything is fine with that stick. So, my take is that there is nothing wrong with that 4K stick, as the app cannot tell one from the other. We don't have 4K FTV stick, but as far as WASK code, your app is running at 1080p, regardless of that 4K capabilities. Therefore, if you see issues, those may be on your side rather than with the WASK code. However, you have to assume that no one broke that WASK code on purpose, and changes over those four years on Fire TV platform were not that dramatic (more like adding new features, keeping up with the latest JS). Our code came from the WASK kit, but over time we diverged a bit, so the fact that our code works, doesn't imply that out of the box WASK would work. Of course, depending on your skills/needs, you could be mixing parts of development from HTML/JS and Java, if that will work for you better. Again, when you hit any limits, you are on your own, and you need to do 100% Java. Do the FireAppBuilder, if you are better on the Java side than on JS. Basically, you do the same work as in #2, you may get access to extra libraries (if you need those features), but you do the Cordova, so may not be that much advantage for this route.Ĥ. You may also hit some problems with additional libraries (e.g., IAP). You should be able to use the WASK code there as well, but Amazon is not letting us know how to target Amazon webkit, so you will need to spend some time on the CSS side. Keep banging on that WASK code, till you get it working - the plus is that you submit just your zip file with HTML/JS/CSS files (or just index.html, and you host everything else), and Amazon does Cordova wrapping for you.ģ. Otherwise, they could just back-propagate Creator's code to github.Ģ. Creator is based on the WASK code, and that may be the main reason that Amazon abandoned WASK - to not have competition. Use Amazon Creator, if you just want to get a basic app, and you don't want to do any coding. (If you are better on HTML/JS side than on Java, you could potentially better tolerate lack of support with your webapp, than with a native app.)Ĭurrently, you have the following options (I guess, shame on Amazon that they don't have such table in their docs):ġ. Again, this is the myopic course.ĭepending on what your skills are, what you (may) already have on other platforms, building a HTML/JS webapp may be a very viable/good route. So, that would imply that a bit better answer would be to suggest you to go native. With that in mind, there is no point to advertise FireAppBuilder as a better route, as it already is, or will be abandoned by Amazon the same way as they did Web App Starter Kit (WASK). So, that answer is just pushing a problem a bit further, but not removing it. Assuming that Levon is right, sooner or later you will hit some limitations/issues with FireAppBuilder, and then you are on your own (just search this forum). I think that the answer that Levon gave you is a bit myopic. Most of the 'support' that is happening right now is editing white spaces in old requests, maybe to score some points with the Amazon yearly review system, but basically screwing up those forums. So, that is not just you waiting for help - support is gone. Not sure whether you noticed, but Amazon support is mostly gone for the past two months or so.
